Last week was the School-Based Health Alliance’s National Conference in Austin, TX. Though she was not able to attend in person, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow made sure to video into the conference and express her support for School-Based Health Care.

“Thanks to your work, we’ve reduced the need for high-cost services, we’re improving students’ performance, and increasing access to health care – including mental health care – which is so important,” said Senator Stabenow.

She touted the success of the Affordable Care Act and cited the next challenge as getting funding to support school-based health services.

“I believe school-based health centers deserve dedicated funding, and that’s why I’m working with many of you on legislation that will address school-based health centers for the long run,” said Senator Stabenow, “We really need to get that done and I need your help your help to be able to tell the story of the difference you’re making in children’s lives.”

She also noted that in the last 20 years, both old and new advocates are now coming to the fold for school-based health care.
