Michigan Benefits Access promotes the use of a multiple benefit application system, called MI Bridges, through community outreach.  MI Bridges is a system developed and maintained by the Department of Human Services. The Michigan Association of United Ways provides training to community organizations to enable staff/volunteers to assist persons directly with applying for public benefits on MI Bridges, as well as, informing the community about the availability of the system for anyone to use on-line. An MBA and MI Bridges Trainer will share the goals of initiative, the expanded features of the technology, possible levels of engagement for community based organizations, and how to navigate MI Bridges when assisting an applicant.

We will cover such topics such as:

  • What is advocacy?
  • Who are the players?
  • What is your message?
  • What are the best strategies?

The webinar will be hosted by Kevin Lignell, Communications Consultant for the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan.  It will be recorded and available for future use on our website.

The Success is a Spectrum Parent Conference will provide information on today’s best practices, evidence-based treatments and a number of other topics relevant to give parents tools they can use to help their children with autism. Our goal is to share practical tools, strategies, and resources that can be used, immediately. Along with terrific breakout sessions, we’ve developed a dynamic event full of opportunities for conversation and problem solving. Come out to listen, share, network and grow.

Our Opening Session will feature a parent panel of autism heroes whose stories will allow us to look beyond the everyday challenges of raising a child with autism and celebrate success from multiple perspectives. Join AAoM in this unique, uplifting event!

An MBA Trainer will share our program goals, the features of MI Bridges, the levels of engagement for Community Partners, and how to teach clients to use the MI Bridges system.

School-Based Health Care Advocacy Day @ Christman Training Room - Christman Building

Are you a youth or adult that supports school-based, school-linked, and school wellness health centers and programs in Michigan?  Come to the Capitol and have your voice be heard!

Join the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan on April 22nd in the Christman Training Room of the Christman Builiding in Lansing, MI for our Annual Advocacy Day.  Make the legislative process come alive and join us from 9am – 3pm for legislative visits and crucial policy updates for the field.

Youth and Health Center Professionals are encouraged to attend.

After you register below with your names and health center address, SCHA-MI will make individual legislative appointments for your group.  An email will be sent to every adult leader that has registered confirming all appointments.

Things that Adult Leaders must know:

  • Please note on the registration below that you can add guests.  We are asking that if you add guests, they are youth only.  Attendees may bring up to 10 youth for every adult.
  • All adults must register separately.
  • Be sure that a media consent form is on file for each youth that you bring.  Don’t have one?  Use this form
  • If you are bringing youth and would need parking for a bus or van, please mark the box below on the registration.  Unfortunately, this can only be provided for those bringing groups of youth.

Second Annual Conference on Adolescent Health @ Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest

Please join the University of Michigan Health System’s Adolescent Health Initiative for the second annual Conference on Adolescent Health! This conference is directed to Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Registered Dietitians, Health Educators, Public Health Professionals, and all others who work with adolescents in a health care capacity.

We hope that you can participate both days as we transform the landscape of adolescent health in Michigan and across the country.

  • The afternoon of Thursday, April 23, we will host skills-building workshop sessions which aim to improve clinical practices in areas that can substantially impact adolescent care. That evening we will enjoy a networking reception as well as a poster-viewing session.
  • Friday, April 24, will be an all-day conference filled with exceptional speakers discussing the most cutting-edge topics in adolescent health.

2015 Conference Objectives

  • Identify and implement evidence-based adolescent healthcare practices in the arenas of mental health, physical health, and sexual health.
  • Understand and utilize the latest advancements in technology and communication with and among adolescents.
  • Develop evidence-based communication skills for working with adolescents specific to morbidities prevalent in adolescents (Thursday).

Youth MHFA training – Washtenaw County Area
May 11 – May 15 all-day

This is an opportunity for anyone interested/able to participate and become a certified instructor in either MHFA or YMHFA. This training is free except for your staff time, mileage, meals and lodging. Its an intensive training but can be useful for school staff and others you work with.

Please email Kim Batsche-McKenzie at batsche-mckenziek@michigan.gov potential certified instructor names, complete with the individual’s email addresses and training location preference. This offer will be available on a first come first serve basis until the trainings are filled.
