The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) will host the CDC Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Course (also called the Pink Book Course) on June 16-17, 2015, at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan. This two-day course will be presented by Ray Strikas, MD, MPH, and JoEllen Wolicki, RN, BSN, immunization educators with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A state immunization update, given by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), Division of Immunization, will also be included.Using content from the book Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (also known as the Pink Book), the class provides a comprehensive review of vaccine-preventable diseases and the recommended vaccines to prevent them. Participants will have many opportunities to ask questions.

Course Details

The class will be held at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan. The registration fee will be $75. A copy of the Pink Book (valued at $40) will be provided to all attendees at no additional charge. The registration fee will include a continental breakfast for both days, beginning at 7:30 am. The fee will also include lunch for both days, refreshments during the afternoon breaks, and continuing ed credits.

Course participants are responsible for the cost of overnight accommodations. We are providing a list of some Lansing hotels, although there are many additional hotels in Lansing to choose from.

Participants are also responsible for the cost of parking. Parking is available underneath the Lansing Center. The cost per day is $6 per vehicle, per entrance. Attendees may pay with cash, or credit/debit cards. It is not necessary to have exact change.

Continuing Education

A variety of health care professionals may be eligible to earn continuing education for attending the Pink Book Course. A list of accreditation statements is posted on this website. Additional details will be available as we get closer to June. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain CE credits through the CDC online system within 30 days following the course.

Please Note: The course is scheduled 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on BOTH DAYS. A continental breakfast will be available beginning at 7:30 am for both days.

Partial credits ARE NOT PROVIDED.  You must attend BOTH DAYS to receive any credit.

Additional Information

Space is limited. Once registration begins on April 6, please register as soon as possible.

The course has not been held in Michigan since 1996 and it is possible that this class may fill up in advance. Health care providers from out-of-state are welcome to attend this class. In fact, we are promoting the class to out-of-state providers as well as providers who live in Michigan. For all of these reasons, we are recommending that you register for the course in April or early May, if at all possible.
